Mechanisms of Action

Anti-Inflammatory

A property or substance that reduces inflammation in the body.

Anti-inflammatory refers to the ability of a substance to suppress inflammatory pathways in the body. Chronic low-grade inflammation underlies many health conditions and can contribute to hair follicle miniaturization and disrupted hair cycling. Key inflammatory mediators targeted by supplements include NF-κB transcription factor, COX-2 enzyme, pro-inflammatory cytokines (TNF-α, IL-6, IL-1β), and prostaglandins. Supplements with demonstrated anti-inflammatory properties include omega-3 fatty acids, curcumin, and certain probiotics.
