Microbiome

The community of trillions of microorganisms living in and on the human body.

The human microbiome refers to the collective genomes of the trillions of microorganisms (bacteria, fungi, viruses, archaea) inhabiting the body, with the largest community in the gut. The gut microbiome influences nutrient absorption, immune function, inflammation, neurotransmitter production (gut-brain axis), and even hair follicle health via systemic inflammatory pathways. Dysbiosis (microbial imbalance) is associated with numerous health conditions. Probiotic supplementation aims to restore beneficial microbial populations, while prebiotic fibers selectively feed these organisms.
